GREEN BAY, Wis. First-round pick Quay Walker was the first Green Bay Packers rookie to move into a starting role.Could receiver Romeo Doubs be the next? The fourth-round pick, who scored two touchdowns on Thursday, joined Allen Lazard as the only receivers on the field for the opening snap of Fridays practice.Veteran Randall Cobb has a seen a lot of receivers come and go during his time in Green Bay. What stands out about Doubs?I think the biggest piece is just ability to go get the ball when its just thrown up and its between him and the DB to go up and make a play, Cobb said after Fridays low-tempo practice. Thats one thing you cant coach. You cant really teach that; you either have it or you dont, and he has it. Thats special. Thats just a piece, though. Theres a lot that goes Landen Akers Jersey into making this team and being on this field and making an impact, but he has the tools. Its on himself and on me and our receiver group to continue to mold him and build him and help him realize what he has. Ive been very impre sed with him so far. Player of the DayFine, hes not a player, but kudos to coach Matt LaFleur for closing practice to the fans so as not to waste their time with a half-speed practice. No doubt LaFleur and his staff got plenty out of the day, but it was low on the excitement meter. Its just going to be more of a mental day and theres not a lot of just full-speed action, he said beforehand. Its more jog-through, above the neck. Were very cognizant of, when you have three days in a row, what youre doing in that third day because typically the third day is when the majority of injuries can happen. So thought it was good to kind of de-load them a little bit and then well crank it up again tomorrow. So, personally, I didn’t think itd be as much fun for the fans. Play of the DayThere were no competitive periods, but weve got a template for this story and were sticking to it. Late in the practice, Aaron Rodgers hit Amari Rodgers on a deep pa s against cornerback Rasul Douglas. The noteworthy part of it was Rodgers drew outside linebacker LaDarius Hamilton offside in a half-speed drill.A little later, Rodgers threw a short pa s to tight end Tyler Davis, who juggled the ball to serve up an interception for Douglas. The drop is irrelevant, but Douglas instincts and reflexes are top notch. Douglas finished fourth in the NFL with five interceptions last season despite playing in only 12 games. .I want to be All-Pro and I want to win Defensive Player of the Year. Thats just my two goals right now, he said. Packers Injury Report , four players practiced for the first time during training camp. One of them was outside linebacker Randy Ramsey, who was in position to make the Los Angeles Rams Women Jersey roster in 2021 before a major ankle injury. .Its been a long proce s, he said. I was just happy to get that green light. Around this time last year, I got hurt during the fifth practice. Going from not being able to walk for two months to now, thats just a big motivation for me. So, Im just glad to be back out there with the guys.Returned to practice: WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring), T Rasheed Walker (foot), OLB Randy Ramsey (ankle), DT Akial Byers (hamstring).New Injuries: None.Old injuries: WR Malik Taylor (shoulder) Non-Football Injury List: CB Keisean Nixon (groin).Physically unable to perform list: K Mason Crosby (knee), WR Christian Watson (knee), RB Kylin Hill (knee), LT David Bakhtiari (knee), OL Elgton Jenkins (knee), TE Robert Tonyan (knee). Packers Depth Chart Notes- As was the case on Day 1 of camp, the No. 1 offensive line was Yosh Nijman at left tackle, Jon Runyan at left guard, Josh Myers at center, Jake Hanson (pictured) at right guard and Royce Newman at right tackle. On Day 2, rookie Zach Tom was the left tackle, Newman was back at home at right guard and David Long Jr. Jersey Nijman was the right tackle.I know its a different game, but hes done it in college and hes got the athleticism and hes got great technique, coach Matt LaFleur said of Tom. For what he lacks maybe in sheer size, he can really sink his hips and anchor and does a great job with that.- For the first two practices, Jack Coco had the first snap during field goals. On Friday, it was incumbent Steven Wirtel. There was no live kicking, only the snap, hold and protection.- Rich Bisaccia worked on kickoff and kickoff return. Speedster cornerback Rico Gafford got the first shot at returner, with receivers Amari Rodgers, Romeo Doubs, Ishmael Hyman and Danny Davis and running back Aaron Jones part of the rotation. Players who were with the first unit on both phases: Gafford, safety Dallin Leavitt, tight end Josiah Deguara, linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, tight end Tyler Davis and outside linebacker Tipa Galeai. Packers Training Camp Schedule- After Fridays practice was closed to fans, practices on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday will be open to the public. Those will Los Angeles Rams Kids Jersey have an official start time of 10:30 a.m. but the players will emerge from the Hutson Center closer to 10:45.The players will wear shoulder pads on Monday and go full pads on Tuesday. Extra PointA big chunk of the practice had the teams split into two groups. On the north side of the field, it was the starters and key backups. On the south side of the field, it was the young players and those on the bottom of the depth chart. Of note:On the defensive line, TJ Slaton worked with the top players and first-round pick Devonte Wyatt was with the other group. At outside linebacker, LaDarius Hamilton (pictured) and Tipa Galeai worked with the top players. At inside linebacker, Ray Wilborn was the lone backup working with the top players, though Krys Barnes presumably was with the other group because of his command of the defense. Barnes was with Isaiah McDuffie and Ty Summers. The only cornerbacks were the starting trio of Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes and Rasul Douglas. The top backups at safety were Shawn Davis and Vernon Scott. The Best of Green Bay Packers Training CampScroll to Continue

GREEN BAY, Wis. There are some good reasons why many members of the Green Bay Packers dont like the Guardian Caps, the protective devices being worn over the helmets of the players who line up near the ball. And then theres Kenny Clarks reason.Just looking at them just irritates me, honestly, the Pro Bowl defensive tackle said at training camp this week. I dont even like looking at them. Its like a big, ol mushroom. The looks, of course, are irrelevant. According Marc Reininger Jersey to the NFL, the Guardian Cap results in at least a 10 percent reduction in the severity of impact if one player is wearing it, and at least a 20 percent reduction in impact if two players are wearing them.According to a league pre s release trumpeting the development, the NFL and NFLPA, through their biomechanical engineering experts, worked collaboratively with the Guardian Cap manufacturer to test and evolve the design of a cap that withstands impacts NFL players experience on the field. That information derives from the vast amount of data collected during games. That data was used in laboratory simulations in the development of the protective shell.By rule, offensive and defensive linemen, tight ends and linebackers have to wear the Guardian Cap, like it or not. At coach Matt LaFleurs request, the Packers started training camp with all 90 players wearing the cap. By the end of Day 2, every running back, receiver and defensive back had to sed them aside. LaFleur consulted with his colleagues around the NFL as well as in college, where usage of the Guardian Cap is much more widespread, before formulating his policy. He understands the science; he also understands the law of unintended consequences. It truly is about player safety and youre talking about your brain. That is pretty important, LaFleur said. Id be all in favor of whatever helps our guys live a long, healthy life. The thing I somewhat worry about is when you do have that cushion on your helmet, and were making a huge Nick Kwiatkoski Jersey emphasis with our coaches about this, I don’t want the guys to feel the confidence that they can now use their head. So, thats one of the things thats not so great about it is you can get a false confidence and now your technique suffers, and I definitely don’t want to see us go that way.LaFleur had another i sue, too. A player needs training camp to get used to the physicality and stre s on the body. LaFleur wasnt talking about head injuries in this case, but he used the phrase callous your guys. A head-first collision with AJ Dillon isnt a typical part of Clarks ordinary life. What happens when they take them off and now that they havent had that feeling of what it really feels like and now its live action? LaFleur wondered.Scroll to ContinueNew York Jets coach Robert Saleh, a close friend of LaFleur, had the same concern.I do think because of the soft blow, its kind of lending the players to use their heads a little bit more, Saleh told reporters in New York this week. I do think the first time when they take it off anybody who has played football knows the first time Ben Gedeon Jersey you take your helmet off or you hit with the helmet or you have a collision, theres a shock. I do think that if youre waiting until the first game for that shock to happen. I dont know, time will tell. Its just interesting with those Guardian Caps and what exactly are we trying to accomplish.Dr. Allen Sills, the leagues Chief Medical Officer, responded in a .The brain does not acclimate to head impacts, Sills said. The Guardian Cap helps mitigate those forces at a time of the season when we see the greatest Jarrett Lee Jersey concentration of them. For the linemen, tight ends and linebackers, they must wear the Guardian Cap at practice through the week of the second preseason game. No player interviewed for this story offered a substantive opinion, perhaps to not ruffle feathers.Football is football, outside linebacker Rashan Gary said. Take them off, still got to hit. Put them on, still got to hit.Last year, according to league data, there were a total of 187 concu sions between training camp, preseason games, in-season practices and regular-season games. About 16 percent of those concu sions came on the training camp practice field.I think the intent is totally legit, LaFleur said. But I dont understand, if theyre going to wear them in practice, why arent we wearing them in the game? The Guardian Cap is the latest in the NFLs effort to reduce head injuries. Due to better helmets and rules changes aimed at eliminating helmet-to-helmet contact, the league said there has been a 25 percent reduction in the number of concu sions the past four season compared to the previous three. From the start of training camp to the end of the regular season in 2017, there were 281 concu sions. Last year, there were 187.
